About WagaWise

WagaWise is an online listing intelligence tool for buyers, not a marketplace.

WagaWise helps people make smarter buying decisions in Ethiopia. Instead of browsing many marketplaces one by one, you can compare observed online prices, see fair price ranges, check price history, and understand buyer risks before paying.

What we do

We analyze public online listings from Ethiopian marketplaces, e-commerce sites, classifieds, and public seller pages where allowed. For each tracked product we publish a median observed online price, an estimated fair online price range, recent listings, a price history chart, a confidence level, and a category-specific buyer checklist.

Marketplaces show asking prices. WagaWise helps buyers understand whether those online prices are fair.

Where we focus

We focus first on phones and laptops because these are expensive, commonly searched, and frequently sold through online listings. Over time we plan to expand into cars, EVs, rent, appliances, and flights — high-value categories where buyers benefit most from clear price comparison.

What we are not

• We are not a marketplace. We don't sell products or host seller storefronts.
• We are not an official price source for Ethiopia. We don't claim to represent every offline market or seller.
• We are not a daily commodity / FMCG tracker (vegetables, fruits, household goods). Other services do that well; we focus on expensive consumer purchase decisions.

How we gather data — ethically

• We read public listings only — no logins, no paywalls, no CAPTCHA solving, no anti-bot bypass.
• We respect each site's robots.txt and crawl-delay directives.
• We store only factual listing data: title, price, condition, city, source name, source URL, date collected. We don't copy photos, full descriptions, or seller phone numbers.
• We link back to the original listing whenever possible.
• Our crawler user-agent is WagaWiseBot/0.1 (+https://wagawise.com/about). If you operate a site and want us to stop crawling, add a Disallow rule to your robots.txt or email hello@wagawise.com.

Independence and trust

We are not affiliated with any seller and never take payment to surface a particular listing. If sponsored placements appear in the future they will be clearly labeled and excluded from fair-price calculations.
