Data sources

We analyze public online listings from Ethiopian online marketplaces, e-commerce sites, classifieds, and public seller pages where allowed. This page lists every source we read, every one we link to for manual cross-checking, and the principles behind the choices.

Sources may be added, removed, or paused at any time based on (a) robots.txt changes, (b) updates to the site's terms of service, (c) a takedown request from the source owner, or (d) a drop in data quality. For each source we publish here: the homepage, how many listings we've collected, how many we matched to a tracked product, and when we last saw new data.

We don't ingest these — but we acknowledge they exist and provide a deep-link from each product page so you can verify our estimate yourself.

Sources we deliberately do not ingest

A few categories of sources are off-limits as a principled choice, not a technical limitation:

Anything behind a login, paywall, CAPTCHA, or anti-bot wall.
If a site requires solving a Cloudflare challenge or a CAPTCHA to access listings, we treat that as the site saying no. We don't use stealth plugins, residential proxies, or captcha-solver services.
Anything blocked by robots.txt.
We check robots.txt before every fetch, not just once per site. A site that adds a new Disallowrule between ingestion runs immediately takes effect.
Private Telegram groups, Facebook Marketplace, WhatsApp catalogs.
These have lots of real listings, but they require account access, which we don't have or use.
Off-topic sources.
We focus on expensive consumer purchases (phones, laptops first; cars, EVs, rent, appliances, flights later). Commodity/FMCG sources (sugar, flour, vegetables) are well-served by other Ethiopian platforms; we don't compete there.
